Some people you forget about, not intentionally of course, but they have moved to the back of the brain, along with the past.
Andrea Hogan was that person for Mary-Sue Pleasant.
Before Daniel and dropping out of college for motherhood, Mary-Sue was often referred to as a rebel with her punk look, loud music, and choice of men and women.
Andrea was just as bold and spontaneous, but she would not be the one.
“How lovely to see you,” Mary-Sue began. “It’s been…how long?”
“Forever!” Andrea laughed. “I heard you shagged up that Daniel Pleasant. A man, MS, I can’t believe that!” There it was. That little reminder, even so small, but still there to remind Mary-Sue of Andrea’s not-so-open-mind.
“Yes, we have two daughters, twins actually, Angela and Lilith.”
“Do you know what I heard?” Andrea asked. “A friend of mine, Jan Tellerman, you remember her? She was crazy in love with Daniel and his friend John in college. Any way, she was on a date with some dog lover, but anyways, she oversaw an interesting exchange between your husband and some girl dressed up as a maid. Evidently, he was flirting with her or…”
“That’s quite enough.” Mary-Sue interrupted. “He was talking to one of my associates. If you didn’t know, I am managing the maid service now. Have a great day, Andrea.”
Stay forgotten where you belong.
“Hey, lab partner,” Alvin Futa smirked. “Why don’t we study at your place this afternoon? I’ve got an interesting idea I want to share with you.”
“Hey, Lucy!” Gabriella Newson called. “Did you see the posting for lab partners?”
“No, who’d I get?”
“It’s more who you didn’t get.” Sharla Ottomas answered.
“Looks like we’ll be spending a lot of time together.” Bottom Summerdream smiled.
“I know you won’t disappoint.”
“Oh, wow! Goth manor! It’s just like I imagined!”
“So where’s your room?”
“Sorry, it’s a little messy. I wasn’t expecting company.” Alex cringed.
“Wow, you have a lot of neat things!” Alvin grinned.
“Ooh! A video camera! You spying on UFOs?”
“Well, not lately.” Alex sighed. “I originally was tracking them to see if I could formulate a pattern to find my mother, or the UFO that took her, but…I don’t know. I just stopped.”
“It must be hard,” Alvin said. “Bella Goth was a celebrity, but she was your mother.”
“Yeah,” Alex sniffled. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to bring the room down.”
“That’s OK,” Alvin smirked. “I think I know how to get it back up.”
“Oh, Cassie, every girl goes through the same thing.” Dina Caliente said. “I know I did. It’s normal to get cold feet, especially when it’s the final home stretch before the wedding.”
What Dina didn’t tell her was how she conquered her fear of marrying Cassandra’s uncle. She didn’t know if Don told her the story. She wouldn’t create an awkward situation if he hadn’t.
“I guess I’m just being silly.” Cassandra said. “I want to marry Don. Of course I do! I wouldn’t have accepted his proposal if I didn’t. I don’t know why I’m feeling this way, but I know that feelings sometimes aren’t logical.”
“You’re going to be fine.” Dina chuckled. “After all I won’t let you cancel this wedding and neither will Mary-Sue. She’s going to maid-of-honor after all. You don’t want to take that away from her.”
“Thanks, Aunt Dina.” laughed Cassandra. “But Dad sent me over here to fetch you. I suppose we should head back to the house to see what he wants.”
“How long are you going to stay this way?” Katrina asked. “You know I won’t bite.”
“Not that you aren’t one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. If you weren’t Nina’s little play thing, I might have already jumped across this couch. C.A.M. are you listening to me?”
“Finally!” Nina shouted. “I finally got everything ready for that bachelorette party.”
“That’s great dear,” Katrina said. “You just missed the bride-to-be actually. She and your sister are having dinner over at the Goths tonight. So I guess it’s just C.A.M., you, and me this evening.”
“Well, OK, I’ll let Dina know tomorrow I guess.” she shrugged.
“I’ll have to bring you to Sandy’s before the party,” Nina said to C.A.M.
“Can I go tonight?” he asked.
“Well, he speaks!” Katrina exclaimed. “What? You don’t want to spend time with me?”
“No, no, I don’t.” he answered. “I don’t want to be near you.”
“C.A.M. that’s very rude!”
“Apologize to Katrina.” Nina said.
“No, I won’t!”
“C.A.M. get back here! C.A.M.!” Nina shook her head. “I don’t know why he acts this way around you.”
“Maybe he’s got a crush on me?” she shrugged. “But Nina, dear, you know what would really settle him down?”
“No, Katrina, I’m not making fireworks with him.”
“Soo…” Kaylynn took a deep breath. “I was wondering…well…we were. Lucy, Remington, and I…”
“What is it?” Mary-Sue asked. “Carlos Contender being inappropriate again? I swear that man. If he doesn’t stop, I’ll…”
“No, no, ummm,” the maid interrupted. “We were just wondering if you’d like to go to a concert with us tomorrow night.”
“A concert? I haven’t been to one of those in…”
“It’s a rock band, The Tutti Band, not really our style, but they’re playing in Downtown and Lucy got the tickets for free. We have an extra if you’re interested.”
“Sure! Why not? I’ll go.”
“Cool! Do you mind driving?”
“That’s a lot of huffing over there, sport.” John Burb said. “What’s on your mind?”
“Nothing,” Lucy grimaced. “Just stupid lab partner assignments. I guess, our teacher just wants to split up everyone, except her favorites. Beau got put with Bottom Summerdream of all people!”
“Uh, huh, Beau Broke,” John nodded. “He’s a lot different than his big brother. Dustin was a shifty boy, but Beau seems pretty nice.”
“He is! But Bottom is just mean!”
“So you’re worried she’ll be mean to him or that’ll she’ll make him mean like her?” he asked. “I know you don’t really think much of your old dad’s opinion, but it sounds to me that my little tomboy might be jealous.”
“Why don’t you talk to Beau and tell him how you really feel?”
“I think it’s time.” Mortimer whispered.
“Children, Dina and I…we are together, a couple.”
“Well, what do you think?” Dina asked.
“Finally!” Alex exclaimed.
Cassandra shrugged. “Tell me something I don’t know.”
“So are you going?” Daniel asked. “To the rock concert?”
“Well, I said I would.” Mary-Sue answered. “I haven’t been to one since before the girls were born. It’ll be fun.”
“Guess who I bumped into today?”
“Who?” he asked.
“Uh, oh, I know where this is going…”
“OK, I’m listening.” Daniel said. “What did she say?”
“She brought up that you and Kaylynn were…I don’t know…flirting, to make me jealous I guess? You remember Andrea. She likes drama. It’s one of the reasons we broke up.”
“Her comment isn’t what made you mad though.” he said. “She doesn’t think you’re happy being monogamous and married to me.”
“You know she doesn’t believe in marriage or my attraction to both men and women.” Mary-Sue shrugged. “Just because she’s only attracted to women and someone that dated her couldn’t possibly be into men.”
“Would it make you happier to be with a woman?” he asked.
“Aha!” she exclaimed. “I knew you would ask to bring another woman into our marriage eventually! Cassandra owes me ten simoleons!”
“I’m being serious, MS.” he sighed. “We’ve always been honest with each other. Lately, I’ve noticed a change with you, especially when you thought Kaylynn and I were having an affair.”
“So my question is really simple, honey.” he said. “Are you happy with just me?”
She wanted to automatically reply: of course, but she allowed herself to think about it first. “I don’t know.” she finally answered. “Is that horrible?”
“No,” he replied. “It just means we have some stuff to work on.”
“Like if I need a girlfriend?”
“I’m not going to lie to you.” Daniel said. “I don’t like the idea of an entirely open marriage, but I know that I’m not giving you everything you desire because, simply, I can’t. I want you to be happy and if that means sharing you with someone else…”
“Daniel, the idea makes me comfortable.” Mary-Sue admitted. “What would people say?”
“Who cares?” Daniel laughed. “According to Andrea, I’m already having an affair with the maid. So the people are already judging us. Why can’t you have the affair with the maid? Or is that too crazy for SimValley?”
“Will you be OK with me going to the concert with Kaylynn then?” Mary-Sue asked.
“I trust you and I trust Kay too. She’s a good girl. I don’t think she’d ever get in-between us unfaithfully.” he said. “But while you’re gone, think it over. If you make a decision, I will support you. I love you.”
Kaylynn admitted it was going to be a little challenging, this night. She hadn’t expected to share a room with Mary-Sue. Just seeing her throughout the week really messed with her. She didn’t think it through inviting Mrs. Pleasant to be the maid’s manager.
But now, there was no turning back. She would just have to deal with her feelings. She wanted to tell Mary-Sue or Daniel, but she was sure they’d fire her or, worse, laugh at her.
“So we have just a few hours until the concert.” Mary-Sue called. “I’ll get ready in here, if you don’t mind?”
“No, go ahead.” Kaylynn answered.
“If we’re going to a rock concert,” Lucy said. “You better dress the part.”
“What do you think Mary-Sue brought to wear?” Remington asked.
“Hopefully not a pantsuit.”
“There, I think I’m done.”
“What do you think?”
“Oh WOW! Mary-Sue! You look…” Beautiful? Stunning? Gorgeous?
“Awesome,” Kaylynn shied away.
“So do you.” MS replied. “That ponytail is super cute on you.”
“I really didn’t think I’d still fit into my old leather pants, but look!”
“You look great.” Kaylynn
“I’m going to change. These boots were definitely not made for walking.”
“The last time I went to a concert like that, I was still with my old girlfriend Andrea.” Mary Sue sighed. “We sneaked backstage and took pictures in the greenroom and behind the band before security got us.”
“Uh huh, but you enjoyed this one too, right?” Kaylynn asked nervous.
“Are you kidding me? It was amazing! Thank you, Kay.”
It was the first time she hadn’t called her Kaylynn. “You are very welcome, MS.”
“No, you don’t understand.” Mary-Sue said. “You reminded me of a part of myself I’ve been neglecting.”
“A punk rock groupie?”
“You are so funny, girl.” MS giggled. “What would I ever do without you?”
“Hey! How was it?”
“It was exactly what I needed,” Mary-Sue replied.
“So I take it you’ve made up your mind?”
“I have.” she nodded. “Is that OK?”
“I’m OK as long as you are.”
“We need to talk to you.” Daniel said.
“Oh, OK?” Kaylynn tried to remain calm, but her heart wanted to beat out of her chest. “Is something wrong? Did I do something wrong?”
“No,” Mary-Sue shook her head. “But we do not want you cleaning our house anymore.”
“Oh…” Kaylynn felt like someone punched her in the stomach. What had she done to deserve their distrust?
“I understand,” she said. “Is my work really not up to par? I will be better, Mary-Sue, I promise. I’ll work harder than ever!”
“No, no, no,” she chuckled. “You work brilliantly.”
If it wasn’t her work then what?
“It wouldn’t be ethical for us to use your service…” Mary-Sue took a deep breath. “What I’m trying to say is, Kaylynn, Daniel and I have something we want to ask you.”
“We’ve grown fond of you through these short years you’ve been with us.” MS explained. “It only makes sense to the both of us to ask you…”
“WILL YOU BE OUR GIRLFRIEND!” Daniel blurted.
“What?” Kaylynn was confused for a moment looking back and forth between their faces. “You want me to be your girlfriend?”
The stress of being fired quickly evaporated, but it was soon replaced by an entirely new fear, but this one quickly grew to excitement.
“Does that mean yes?”
“But hey, don’t stop on my account.” Daniel teased.
“Come here, you silly man!” Mary-Sue hugged him. “How am I so lucky to have you?”
He shook his head. “Are you kidding me? I’m the lucky one.”
“I love you, Daniel Pleasant.”
“Well, let’s spread that love to include one more, baby.”
