Writer Notes: Been working on this on and off for awhile now. I’ve had a lot of real life stuff going on and projects for both Sims 2 and 4. I’m still learning TS4 and I’m enjoying it. BUT! The story must continue.
Warnings: Olive fracking Specter! references, mostly dialogue, wedding talk, half nakedness, suggestive content, plans, and put downs.
The ghosts were calm tonight. Just like Olive Specter wanted.
If her plans were to succeed, this night had to be perfect.
“And what brings you here?” Olive asked Nervous Subject and Erin Beaker.
“We just wanted to hang out in the garden.” Erin said. “Loki and Circe are driving us insane!”
“If that’s ok?” Nervous asked then added. “Mom?”
They were reunited last year. He was taken away by the social worker almost twenty years prior because they claimed she was an unfit mother. He’d been in the system for a long time before he was placed with the Beakers. Olive didn’t know them well, but she didn’t like them either. Erin was nice and a good influence on Nervous.
“That’s fine.” she replied. “I’m having friends over for dinner. You can join us if you want.”
“Thank you, but we already ate.” Erin answered.
Olive nodded. “Just shoo the ghosts if they bother you.”
“Come in if you change your mind.” Olive smiled. “We’re having pork chops.”
“Ok boys, now listen.” Buzz began. “You’re going to behave, especially you Ripp.”
“Why do I get special treatment?” he asked.
“Don’t play dumb, Ripp.” Tank said. “You know what you did last time. I don’t think Olive appreciated being asked if her meat pies came from Fleet Street.”
“Let’s just have a good time.” Buzz said. Though internally he was giving himself a pep-talk.
Olive had a reputation. Many saw her as a good digger getting insurance money for all her dead husbands, but Buzz knew she’d worked hard as a professional part guest. She didn’t need their money.
It was the other reputation that bothered him. The one that had neighbors questioning: Who is buried in Olive Specter’s garden? It wasn’t a garden. It was a graveyard. His wife, Lyla, was buried there among Olive’s husbands. Still, every time he walked through that gate, he got a chill.
“Buzz! Boys! How good to see you!” she smiled. “Dinner is almost finished.”
“I’m glad you came over.” Olive said. “This school year has gone by so fast and our little ones will be off to college soon…” she took a breath. “It’s good to take time and enjoy each other while we can.”
“Of course.” Buzz nodded. “Thank you for having us over.”
“It’s my pleasure.” Olive smiled.
“So can I ask?” Ripp began. “If this is pork or not?”
“Of course you can. The newspaper boy came into my yard yesterday after repeatedly being told to leave the paper by the gate. So I had to kill him and eat his liver.”
“I’m just kidding.” Olive smiled at young Buck. “Everything was purchased at the grocery store this morning. Ophelia helped me with most of it.”
He seemed relieved.
“The food is delicious.” Tank added. “Thank you, Ms. Specter and Phi.”
“Now that you mention it, I didn’t see our newspaper boy today.”
“Ripp stop being rude.”
“I apologize, Ms. Specter.” Buzz said then glared at Ripp.
“No need.” Olive stared at the boy beside him. “I hear you were granted a scholarship by the Tricous to Académie Le Tour. You must be excited.”
Ripp just nodded.
“And you must be so proud that Ripp is going to college, Buzz.”
“Yes, even if he scammed his way in. At least he’s going.” Buzz replied. “Did you get accepted into La Fiesta Tech, Phi?”
“Yep, got my letter early this month.” she smiled. “Aunt Olive and I are going to look at the dorms after graduation.”
“The dorms.” Olive shook her head. “I could actually buy you a house or rent you an apartment, but you are so set on living in the dorms.”
“I don’t want you to spend anymore money on me.” Ophelia replied. “I have to learn to take care of myself.”
“Isn’t she a doll?” Olive said. “Trying to be a grown up and all. You’ll hate being an adult. I assure you.”
“Well, you have to grow up some time.” Buzz chuckled. “At least Phi is accepting responsibility for herself.” He eyed Ripp.
Ripp didn’t say a word. He just shoved food in his mouth.
“How are you doing, honey?” Olive asked. “I know you’ve been seeing Dr. Lola Curious. It must be unnerving.”
“What do you mean?” he asked.
“Well,” she chuckled. “She is an alien, even if only half. I know how you feel about them.”
Buzz nodded. “Actually our sessions have ended.” he said. “She decided we had nothing more to discuss, but I will still be attending our widower meetings with Dina Caliente.”
“So you will be returning to work?” Olive nodded. “That’s good. I know how much you value your work. We all do. Nothing is more admirable than a man serving his country selflessly. Not to mention that uniform.”
“Sometimes my clients ask me to wear uniforms.” she grinned. “I have an array of costumes. Ophelia never had to worry about dressing for Spooky Day. Would you like to see them? ”
“No thank you.” he replied.
“Oh well, the door is always opened if you change your mind.” she laughed. “Who will be watching Buck while the boys are off to college and you’re at work? If no one has offered, I’d be willing to watch him.”
“That’s very…kind of you.” Buzz nodded. “I actually hadn’t thought that far. Buck already stays over Jill’s house when I get home late. I’m sure Jenny won’t mind.”
“Just thought you might have a problem with her family.” Olive nodded. “But in any case, you know where to find me, even if it isn’t about babysitting.”
“Thanks for your help boys.” Ophelia grumbled.
“I’m sorry.” Tank said.
“Hey, we’re guests.” Ripp teased. “We’re not supposed to help.”
“So graduation is next week.” Ripp said. “And this last summer then off to college. Have you made plans?”
“Not really.” Phi sighed. “I thought about getting a job so I can buy a car.”
“I have bigger plans.” Ripp smirked. “Gvaudoin has invited me to Twikkii Island. Her family goes there every summer.”
“First a scholarship to Académie Le Tour, now a vacation! That girl is spoiling you!” Phi laughed.
“What are you doing this summer, Tank?”
“Transferring from our school’s military program into regular boot camp.” he replied.
“He’ll be a regular jar-head by the time he gets out.” Ripp rolled his eyes. “Yes sir this, yes sir that. Shine my boots, boy! Make those bed corners square! Look at me in my spiffy uniform.”
“At least I’m guaranteed a career.” Tank smirked. “Is your girlfriend going to have to buy you one of those too, Ripp?”
“True, at least you got a plan.” Ophelia nodded. “I still don’t know what major I’m taking.”
“You’ll figure it out.” Tank said. “You’re smart.”
“I’m between Art and Biology.” she answered. “And then there’s Literature or Philosophy. So many choices! I don’t know what to do.”
“You don’t have to choose right away.” Ripp said. “They said you can wait until junior year. You’ll be put into the undeclared program.”
“Sounds fitting for you, Ripp.”
“Slacker and proud of it!” he chuckled. “Maybe Gvaddy will buy me a job. Do you think there will be an opening at Crypt’O Nightclub? I could work DJ or bartender or just schmooze all the ladies. Wouldn’t that be fun?”
“Lazlo just sent me another message complaining about Crystal.” Erin sighed. “He proposed! He should know what that entails. There’s going to be a wedding and he has to help pick out stuff.”
“You wouldn’t be that way, would you, Nervous?” Erin asked. “You’d happily pick out napkins with your fiancee?”
When he didn’t reply, she asked. “Are you ok?”
“Yeah,” he sighed. “Sorry. I just feel…so much in this place.”
“A lot of people do.” she answered. “But we’re just more psychically gifted.”
He lay beside her. Erin really thought she had psychic powers, but even he wondered how much of it was an act. He did have the powers (something Loki and Circe wanted to explore). It wasn’t as super as people made it out to be. He could feel ghosts and sometimes even dream about people before they died. It was scary sometimes. No one seemed to understand him, except Erin. Maybe she just pretended to have the same powers so he didn’t feel so alone.
“You’re thinking too hard.” Erin said. “What’s on your mind?”
“I think I’d want white napkins with black pinstripes around the edge.” he answered. “And maybe our initials in the corners. They could be pink, if that’s what the bride wants.”
“That sounds perfect for us.” she laughed. “Team Erin and Nervous. If we really wanted to, we could probably beat Lazlo and Crystal to the altar.”
She felt his pale brown eyes on her. Nervous hardly ever made eye contact with anyone, but he did with her. They smiled at each other. “Let’s do it.”
“I see you made it.” Malcolm Landgraab smiled.
“Let’s just get on with it.” Mortimer Goth grumbled.
“We said we were going to be nice.” Dina Caliente said. “You promised.”
“Fine.” Mortimer sighed. “I would like to meet this Donna Cove, if that’s all right, Mr. Landgraab?”
“Of course, follow me.”
“Is that supposed to be me?”
“Unfortunately.” Malcolm replied.
“Did you see that guy?” Woody Tutti asked. “He must be a raging fan. He looked just like my character!”
It was all John Mole could do not to take his mirror and beat him with it.
“Wait here.” Malcolm said. “I’ll return with Ms. Cove.”
“You still have that writer’s block?” Donna Cove asked. “I thought by now you’d know what your next movie is.”
“I wish it was that simple.” Robert Kim shrugged. “You never know. I might want to dab my feet in that When Freezer Bunny Attacks gig.”
“That’s so not you.” she chuckled. “You need something bigger. Maybe science fiction, but bigger.”
“Any way, you said this was the last time.” Robert said. “You still think so?”
“It’s getting harder to sneak around Malcolm.” Donna replied. “I think it’s safe for the both of us…”
“I get it.” he nodded. “No worries. I’ll come to you again when I need that great face in a movie.”
“Thanks Robert.” Donna laughed. “Say hi to Cynthia from me.”
“I was told this is Donna Cove’s dressing room. Is she here?”
“Hey Donna you have a visitor!” Robert called. “Just go on in.” He said to Chloe Curious. “She’ll be just a minute.”
Robert Kim looked back as the green skinned lady walked into the actress’s dressing room. He knew what his next movie would be about.
“Hi, Chloe,” Donna smiled. “I see you got my message.”
Chloe shook her head. Her heart pounded loudly against her chest. “I can’t do this.” she said.
“Chloe! Please!” Donna cried. “I just wanted to talk.”
“I’ve felt so bad about what happened and I’m sorry.” she said. “I want you to know that you’ll always be important to me and I will always love you.”
“I know what I did was wrong. I broke my promises and hurt you.”
“But I was a fool. I thought I knew what I wanted, but now I know better.”
“Yeah? What did you learn? That you’re a bitch! You used me, Donna! When you didn’t need me any more, you tossed me aside for fortune and fame. That’s not what we talked about! You promised me that we would stay together!”
“I know! I know! And I’m sorry!” Donna replied. “I mean it, Chloe. I love you and I’m sorry. I screwed up!”
“Please forgive me.” Donna said. “I’ll make it up to you.”
“I want you to move in with me.”
“You live with Malcolm.” Chloe hissed.
“I’m moving out of the mansion.” Donna said. “I found a nice condo. I want you to move in with me and start a new life. Please, Chloe.”
Chloe’s shoulders slumped. It was what she wanted to hear. Donna knew all her weaknesses. She was her weakness. “Of course I will.”
“Really!” Donna squealed.
“Oh, Chloe, you make me so happy!” she beamed. “I promise you won’t regret this!”
Chloe hoped so too.
“I have a driver waiting for you downstairs.” Donna said. “He’ll drive you home and this weekend we’ll pack and go to our new home!”
“I can’t wait.” Chloe smiled. “Oh Donna. I’ve missed you.”
“Go, go! I’ll call you later.”
What just happened? Chloe mused. Hadn’t she gone in there with her mind made up that she wouldn’t fall for any of Donna’s tricks? Was this a trick? She didn’t know. Part of her was too excited to think, the other felt guarded and maybe a little regret.
“It seems we have some things to talk about.” Malcolm said. “But in the mean time, get dressed. I would like you to meet someone.”
“Introducing our Bella Goth star, Donna Cove.”
“Hi, it’s always a pleasure to meet fans.”
